Shumbi Creator Guidelines

Creator Guidelines

Version: 0.1
Last Updated: 29/07/26

Welcome

Thank you for sharing your events on Shumbi.

Creators are at the heart of what makes Shumbi special. Every workshop, class, market, performance, gathering and experience contributes to a stronger, more connected community.

These guidelines are designed to help you create clear, engaging and trustworthy event listings while maintaining the quality of the Shumbi platform.

They are not intended to limit creativity. Instead, they provide a shared standard that helps everyone have a better experience.

Our Approach

Shumbi exists to help people discover meaningful local experiences.

We believe the best event listings are:

  • authentic
  • honest
  • welcoming
  • informative
  • visually appealing
  • easy to understand

Our moderation process is intended to support these values and help maintain a platform that users can trust.

In-Person Events Only

Events listed on Shumbi must take place in person. Online-only and virtual events are not currently accepted.

Every listing needs a physical location so people can discover real-world experiences happening in their local community.

Authenticity

Please represent yourself and your events honestly.

Your listing should accurately reflect:

  • who is hosting the event;
  • what attendees can expect;
  • where and when the event takes place;
  • any costs involved;
  • any important requirements for attending.

Avoid exaggerated or misleading claims.

People should feel that the experience matches what they saw on Shumbi.

Photography

Strong photography helps people understand what your event is like before they attend.

Whenever possible, we encourage you to use:

  • genuine photographs from your own events;
  • high-quality images;
  • bright, clear photographs;
  • images that accurately represent the experience.

Please avoid:

  • heavily misleading edited images;
  • copyrighted images you do not have permission to use;
  • blurry or very low-quality photographs;
  • images unrelated to the event.

Authentic photography builds trust and helps people make informed decisions.

Event Information

Keep your listings accurate and up to date.

Please ensure your listing includes clear information about:

  • date
  • time
  • location
  • pricing
  • booking requirements
  • age restrictions (if applicable)
  • accessibility information where appropriate.

If details change, update your listing as soon as reasonably possible.

Descriptions

A good description helps someone quickly decide whether your event is right for them.

Try to explain:

  • what the event is;
  • who it is suitable for;
  • what participants can expect;
  • anything attendees should bring or prepare.

Short, clear and friendly descriptions are usually more effective than long promotional text.

Event Changes and Cancellations

We understand that plans sometimes change.

If your event is postponed, cancelled or significantly changed, please update your listing as soon as reasonably possible.

Keeping your information current helps attendees plan with confidence and maintains trust in the platform.

Respectful Communication

We encourage creators to communicate with attendees and the Shumbi team respectfully and professionally.

Healthy discussion, questions and constructive feedback are always welcome.

Harassment, discrimination, abusive language or threatening behaviour will not be tolerated.

We believe respectful communication helps create a stronger and more supportive community for everyone.

Safety and Legal Responsibilities

Creators are responsible for ensuring that their events comply with all applicable laws, regulations and any licences, permits or insurance requirements relevant to their activities.

Shumbi provides a platform for discovery but does not organise or operate events unless expressly stated.

If your event involves activities with particular safety considerations, please ensure participants receive appropriate information before attending.

Prohibited Content

To help maintain a trusted platform, certain types of content are not permitted.

This includes, but is not limited to:

  • false or misleading information;
  • copyrighted material used without permission;
  • offensive, hateful or discriminatory content;
  • unlawful activities;
  • spam or repetitive listings;
  • fraudulent events;
  • content intended to deceive or manipulate users.

If you're unsure whether something is appropriate, please contact us before publishing.

Our Moderation Process

Every event submitted to Shumbi is reviewed before publication.

Our moderation process is intended to:

  • improve clarity where needed;
  • help maintain a consistent standard;
  • protect the quality of the platform;
  • support trust within the community.

Occasionally we may:

  • request additional information;
  • suggest improvements;
  • ask for updated photographs;
  • decline a listing that doesn't meet our guidelines or Terms of Use.

Where practical, we will explain the reason for our decision and provide an opportunity to make changes.

Tips for Great Listings

Creators who consistently receive positive engagement often have listings that are:

  • clear and easy to read;
  • supported by authentic, high-quality photographs;
  • honest about what attendees can expect;
  • regularly updated;
  • welcoming to newcomers;
  • complete, with all key details included.

A little extra care when creating your listing can make it easier for people to discover the experiences you offer.

Growing With Shumbi

As Shumbi evolves, these guidelines may also evolve.

Our goal is not to create unnecessary rules, but to continue supporting a platform that benefits creators, attendees and local communities.

When significant updates are made, we will revise these guidelines and publish the latest version on the platform.
